leave a comment »

Finally, my type of watch has finally arrived. This is because I don’t wear watch now, as my cell phone is already combining the function. Well, the Tissot T-Touch Expert watch is enough to stimulate the pleasure center of the gadget geek’s brain. Packed into a dual analog/digital face, this wristwatch is literally a flotilla of functions.

As I used to tell my friends, unless the wrist watch can perform a multiple functions of a wrist watch, a thermometer, stethoscope, wind vane, trek-o-meter, etc, (something like a James Bond’s type of wrist watch), then count me out.

This Tissot T-Touch Watch got all. It is fully loaded. Full options. Among it’s arsenals are:
– Dual time zones
– Two alarms
– Countdown chronographs
– Barometer
– Thermometer
– Perpetual calendar
– Compass
– Altimeter and
– Azimuth (sort of a GPS system on your wrist)

The face of these technological wonder is touch screen. By tapping on seven different points on the analog face the digital portion displays the results instantly.

The Tissot T-Touch Wrist Watch comes at a price of $1095. It is not too expensive if you consider the number of technological masterpiece crammed into this device.

Smart Gym Gear: Cooling Shoe, Ear Sensor and Smart Bra

leave a comment »

For those of us who are gym rats, we need to give claps to technology for these. New tools under development will soon make sure there’s no missed step, poor form, or lagging pace you don’t know about in real time.

Ear Sensor
The e-AR from Sensixa is a cufflink-sized device that tucks behind a runner’s ear like a Bluetooth headset to measure shockwaves through the skeleton. It calculates stats like step frequency, acceleration, and stride.

Smart Bra

Even small breasts can bounce up to 3 inches during exercise, causing significant discomfort. Researchers in Australia are using motion capture to design a bra that dynamically adjusts cup and strap stiffness as a woman moves around.

Cooling Shoe
Avacore is developing a cooling shoe based on the company’s CoreControl glove currently used on NFL sidelines. Why? Rapidly cooling hands and feet is a safer and more efficient way to prevent overheating than water buckets or mist fans.

Fagor TP-2006 X Flat Toaster: Make a Toast, Get a Burn

leave a comment »

The Fagor TP-2006 X Flat Toaster comes with a cool design. It doesn’t look ordinary. Besides, you can toast larger items on it. But then, you better be careful with it, for you may be asking for more than toasted bread if you fail to concentrate while using it.

Why now?
– The surface is lined with extremely hot wires that are very well exposed. There is no way to cover it except with the toast.
– You have to manually flip over your toast, as both sides cannot be heated at once.

This is definitely no toaster to be used by children or somnambulist adults.

Volkswagen Cars That Can Park Themselves Remotely

leave a comment »

The VW Park Assist Vision (PAV) will asset driver to remotely park their Volkswagen cars. The driver does not even need to be in the car. Apart from this, the Volkswagen PAV can park the car perpendicularly like in parking spots or in parallel as in along the street.

This means, if you can park in the tightest of spots, without worrying about how you are going to open your door to get out, because you won’t be in the car while doing the parking. This sounds exciting. This is the sort of things James Bond movies are made up.

The hardware involved includes ultrasonic sensors, electro-mechanical steering gear, and a 2GHz computer. Once the car is nice and ensconced in its spot, the engine shuts off and the doors are locked. All these will be done via remote control.

Asus Plans to Build Laptop Casings with Bamboo

leave a comment »

This is a sharp departure from the conventional practice of using plastic or metal for the outer shell of laptop, although some aluminum frames will be used to offer the laptops some form of rigidity. Otherwise the bamboo will be a little flexible.

This is worth picking up as the design is beautiful. You might have to wait till June though. There will be both 11-inch and 12-inch variants of the bamboo notebooks, with pricing starting around $1650.

Acer To Launch First Smartphone

leave a comment »

Acer will likely launch its first smartphone near the end of this year or early next year and it will be a Microsoft-based device, the president of the company said Wednesday.

Smartphones will represent as much as 10 percent of Acer’s revenue in the next few years, said Gianfranco Lanci, president of Acer, at the company’s first quarter investors’ conference in Taipei.

People on the lookout for such a device should remember Acer, the world’s third-largest PC vendor, owns several brands now, including Gateway of the U.S. and Packard Bell in Europe. Lanci said any smartphone launched by the company could enter the market under any of the brands it owns.

Acer’s quick entry into the smartphone market comes largely due to its NT$9 billion (US$297.3 million) agreement last month to purchase handheld device maker E-Ten Information Systems of Taiwan.

E-Ten has developed and sold several smartphone models over the past several years, including its Windows Mobile 6.0-based Glofish smartphone with GPS (Global Positioning System), in addition to other handheld electronic devices such as GPS devices and pocket PCs.

Scan to eBook With Plustek OpticBook 4600 Book Scanner

leave a comment »

ant to photocopy that book? We have a better idea. Scan it with the newly introduced Plustek OpticBook 4600 Book Scanner. You might want to ask me why you should scan it rather than photocopy it. The reasons are plain simple:

– No paper required – as users can save the scanned file onto the hard drive or any portable storage media.
– Scan and save – besides printing out hard copy, users can choose to scan and save the file to any digital format.

This scanner has a resolution of 1200 dpi (interpolated to 24000) dpi and has a Scanning speed as stunning as 3.2 second per page. Besides, Plustek OpticBook 4600 comes with an optional stand. This thoughtful design elevates the scanner by 122mm with an 18.8 degree angle thereby generating the best scan result even when you are scanning a book with hard and bulky cover.

Create an eBook from a book instead of generating bulky papers. This is a great idea for libraries, as scanning a book is more convenient for both the students and the library than photocopying in this highly digitalised world.

Scatter Those Rodents with Mega-Sonic Scatter-Cat Repeller

leave a comment »

Ok, let’s face it. You don’t like to kill rats or any other rodents for that matter. But that does not mean you like them hanging around your yard. So how do you chase the cats, rats and other rodents out of your premises? You chase them away of course. How do you chase them away? Typically, by yelling at them.

Well, if you are tired of yelling at those nocturnal creatures in your premises, then let Mega-Sonic Scatter-Cat Repeller do the yelling for you. This is a device that looks like a megaphone, but it is not designed to amplify your voice. Instead, it sends out an ultrasonic signal that human hears cannot hear, but will hit an animal’s ear like a high-pitched scream.

You also have the option to switch it to a loud sonic signal that can be heard by both humans and animals. This will come handy when you need to scare someone away. The Cat Repeller also comes with a laser sight, which you can focus on the rodents if need be.
